During October 2010, Foresters Community Finance held a series of workshops for community sector organisations in Victoria focused on the Strategy of Community Asset Building. The workshops were part of a broader program of community asset building and community finance that will continue over the next twelve months.
The workshops are designed to provide community sector organisations with an introduction to Foresters Community Finance, Community Asset Building and the ways to go about achieving ownership of property.
The program was funded by the Office of Cummunity Sector in Victoria and supported across the state by the Victorian Council Of Social Service.
In July 2010, Minister Karen Struthers, Minister for Department of Communities announced funding awarded to Foresters for a Community Asset Building program in Queensland.
Like the Victorian Community Asset Building program the focus will be a series of workshops followed by the delivery of appraisal and planning support to assist organisations to achieve their Community Asset Building goals.
One of the biggest challenges facing community organisations is their capacity to plan for and build a long-term sustainable future because of lack of certaincy of accessing long-term appropriate space in the right place. Community Asset Building workshops explore how organisations can develop community asset building strategies, removing community organisations from the treadmill of tenancy uncertainty.
Details of upcoming workshops can be found on the Foresters events page .
